Live Course on Product Led Growth and Few Useful Updates
Good Morning,
I have a few exciting updates to share today. Rather than making it full update-y, I would be sharing my frameworks/logic behind these updates so that they make for an interesting and valuable read for you.
Leaving Unacademy
First, I will be leaving Unacademy this month to build something new. I made this announcement over Linkedin and Twitter, and it kinda blew up, so you may have already seen this. If you want to understand why I made the decision to leave, you can visit the post either on LinkedIn or Twitter.
Building Something New
I have gotten lots of messages from people asking what I am going to build. It's too early to tell at this time. I am still dabbling with a few interesting areas like Generative AI, Education Tech, SaaS in productivity space, community, etc.
Sharing a few things I have in mind while I explore these ideas:
Right to win — In the past, I have explored ideas where I didn't have any advantage over someone else doing the same thing. That's a common mistake, IMO. I would be figuring out how my unique profile and the team enable me to win on the idea I choose to explore.
Benefit to society — Most businesses help society in different ways, but not all like betting apps. It's personally important to me that the problem I solve helps society in a good and obvious way. This has been a recurring theme with past initiatives like Growth Catalyst and Tech Simplified book.
Cash efficient — 2022 has taught us the benefit of building cash-efficient businesses. I would try to find areas where the product can generate cash from Day 0.
I hope to find something that meets the criteria. I also plan to build in public and ask for your help when needed :)
Live Cohort Based Course on Product-led Growth
In the last six months, I have been working on a live learning course, 'Product Led Growth', which is highly relevant for existing PMs and entrepreneurs. While I figure out what I want to build, I plan to teach this course and live - Do what you love :)
One may ask — why a course around product-led growth? Here is an excerpt from my thesis about the course.
I have been writing about product-led growth since I started this blog couple of years back. Through my writing, I covered a breadth of topics ranging from positioning and GTM to growth loops and retention. That should be a starting point for solving growth problems.
When I talk to PMs and founders, they don't feel confident when they are given a target to achieve in terms of user or revenue growth, even if they have gone through blogs/books/videos. I have been there myself, and I know how desperate it feels to hit a growth wall.
Is there a golden bullet to solve the problem for every PM and founder out there? There isn't.
Can they improve their chances manifold by learning practitioner's growth frameworks and methods that have worked for multiple industries? Definitely yes.
What about the numerous courses that promise the same? I have taken many, and I wouldn't be working on another course if I didn't feel they lacked a few critical things.
Lack of coverage for PMs (breadth and depth)
Lack of objective assessment
Lack of India-specific case studies
Expensive — Reforge costs $2000, and even Indian courses cost $600-1200
Outdated growth tactics
….
I plan to solve these problems through this course.
The early interest for the course has been great; we have already gotten ~50 applications. You can check out the details of the course here and apply if interested.
Inviting Guest Writers on Growth Catalyst
Guest writers would help bring more diversity of ideas/frameworks to Growth Catalyst. So if you have something significant to share about product management and growth and want to co-write, email me the topic and a brief at dpak1907@gmail.com.
That would be all for now. Thanks for reading,
Deepak
