A PM's single most important job is to identify society's needs and solve them. In that process, they also have to ensure that the company makes money.
Here is what stops PMs from doing so:
Identifying needs β Lack of industry knowledge and user empathy can create gaps in identifying needs
Solving the needs β Problem-solving and creativity become very important here. Even if a PM isnβt highly creative, they can rely on their creative partners aka designers.
Making money β Business acumen and industry knowledge becomes important in making money.
All of this collectively makes a great product manager. Lack of one or more areas can cause problems because they will miss one of the key areas.
Planning to write more shorts like this going forward since writing a long essay isnβt always important. You can hit like if you liked this and want me to continue doing so :)
Writing shorts allows me to answer reader questions as well so please send me your questions here.
